Reiki Energy Renewal

Reiki restores peace and clarity, and a renewed ‘zest for life’.

 What is Reiki?

Reiki (Ray-kee) is a Japanese word, which literally translated means universal (Rei) life force (Ki). It is a gentle form of hands-on energy renewal, that works on all levels to restore health and wellbeing. As well as helping relieve physical ailments, Rei-Ki can be used to treat people with emotional, psychological, and spiritual issues.

Where does it come from?

The practise of Reiki was discovered by a Buddhist Monk, Dr Mikao Usui during the late 1800’s. Since then it has spread around the world and sometimes mixed with other forms of energy renewal. I practice Reiki in its pure form, as taught by my Reiki Master, Barbara McGregor. During a treatment, the Reiki energy is made available to you by a Reiki channel, who would place their hands on key positions over your body. The Reiki then flows in through the top of their head, and out through the hands. The practitioner has no control over the way in which the energy is used because they are merely acting as a channel, enabling you to effortlessly use the Reiki in whichever way is best for you.

What does Reiki do?

Reiki is extremely versatile as it works on all levels. Many people have found it invaluable in first aid situations both for treating minor injuries, and in life support whilst waiting for medical help to arrive. Reiki can quickly stop bleeding, reduce pain and swelling, and encourage wound healing. Usually the longer someone has had a physical problem, the longer it takes to resolve with Reiki (or any other treatment), but occasionally even long-standing health issues can resolve very quickly. Psychologically, Reiki is very relaxing, so is ideal for people in anxiety states. Those with depression sometimes find it starting to lift after a few sessions, as they start to get a renewed 'zest for life'. Emotionally, Reiki can be used to support a person through challenging life events such as serious illness, bereavement, or divorce. Reiki often promotes a renewed sense of clarity and purpose, and can help a person to see these events in a more positive light. As well as the touch aspects of Reiki being very comforting, Reiki can provide physiological support as the body endeavours to cope with stressful situations. On a spiritual level, those who follow a particular faith sometimes report that Reiki brings a new depth of understanding. Reiki is the energy of unconditional love, and will support a person in whichever way best suits them, regardless of their spiritual beliefs. Occasionally those with no beliefs at all can feel inspired to begin exploring the spiritual aspects of their being, but it doesn't always happen. Reiki can be received and felt by anyone regardless of whether or not they have any religious/spiritual beliefs. Since Reiki is completely unconditional, neither the channel or the recipient can consciously 'direct' the energy in one way or another. The energy is made available for the person to use in the way it's needed, and can't be influenced in any way by the channel. Whilst improvements are usually (but not always) subtle, they tend to be noticeable from the first treatment, as Reiki gently helps the person to return to their optimum state of wellbeing.

What happens during a treatment with Hannah?

We’d start by talking briefly about why you’ve chosen to try Reiki, and a little about any health conditions you may have. Reiki can be used safely in any situation, so there’s no need for a full consultation prior to you starting treatment. For the treatment you would lay fully clothed on a treatment couch, and you’re free to talk or not during your session. I place my hands on key positions covering the vital organs, and ideally keep them in each position until the need is met and the energy stops flowing. The energy can be felt in a number of different ways, but usually it is felt as a pleasant, relaxing warmth. Because Reiki is so relaxing, we allow a couple of minutes for you to readjust at the end of your treatment.

Do I have to believe in it for it to work?

There is no need for you to believe in Reiki in order for it to work. Whilst Reiki has its origins in Buddhism, it’s not associated with any religion or belief system when practised in its pure form.

Is it safe?

Reiki is perfectly safe for use by all people in all situations, as the energy is made available for you to use in the best way at the time. It doesn't interact with medication, although sometimes it's necessary to review drug dosages as your overall health starts to improve.

Can Rei-Ki be used to treat children?

Reiki can be safely used to treat children, and as you'd expect unless they're very unwell, the smaller they are, the less Reiki they need. Often children find it difficult to remain still during a Reiki session in the way an adult would, so we can adapt the treatment accordingly. It's much easier to Reiki infants whilst they're asleep, and older children may prefer to have shorter but more frequent treatments.

How often would I need to have Reiki?

Most people come for Reiki once every 1-2 weeks although it can vary greatly according to need and budget. Sometimes those who come for regular treatments choose to go on and learn Reiki for themselves.

Is there any scientific evidence to prove that Reiki works?

To my knowledge no scientific experiments have ever been conducted on Reiki, but interesting observations have been made by those with a scientific or medical background. For example, there have been several reports of a person’s blood oxygen levels rising sharply when they have Reiki, and this may explain at least some of its physical effects. Whilst I’m fascinated at having seen this for myself, I’m unable to explain how it works!.Medical staff trained in Reiki are also sometimes asked to help stop severe bleeding when all the usual measures are not working.

Does Hannah treat animals with Reiki?

At the moment it's not practical to offer treatment for pets, but it's something I'd consider for the future. In the meantime, you may like to think about either seeing a Reiki channel who specialises in animal treatments, or maybe take the next Reiki course so that you can treat them yourself.

What do treatments cost?

Full treatments

Full Reiki treatments cost £40.00 per hour session, with every 5th session free.

Can you recommend a good teacher?

Mastership in any discipline is only acquired following several years of dedicated study, and Reiki should be no exception. My Reiki Master, Barbara McGregor, and her associates in the Usui Reiki Network have all trained for a number of years. As well as teaching how to use Reiki in its pure form, they give metaphysical insights into illness, allowing for a greater understanding of why a person became unwell in the first place. Life long support is also available to all graduates in the form of local groups and annual retreats. The Usui Reiki network is run by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis and is active in the UK, USA, Asia, and Australasia. Those taking Reiki courses with Barbara McGregor, Keven Duff, or Sue Lake-Harris are welcome to return to subsequent seminars anywhere in the world at no additional cost. There are only two levels of Reiki taught within the network; Rei-Ki 1 being the basic level where you’d learn how to treat yourself and others hands-on. Rei-Ki 2 is the optional advanced level, and teaches how to send the energy over a distance.
